Materials:
Crepe Paper in sheets (not tissue paper, crepe paper has a stretch to it.)
Scissors
Step 1: Cut off about a 2"-3" section of crepe paper.
Step 2: Start on one side and cut fringe evenly spaced. Leave some space in the center.
Step 3. Turn it over and cut fringe on the other side, still not cutting too far into the center.
Step 4: Muss up the fringe on each side, separate the layers and scrunch it with your fingers.
Step 5. Et voila! Unroll and hang your fringey streamers and celebrate!

(I was wearing those stripey socks because I was cold but somehow they became the stars of the photos.)
They are SO pretty! Great tutorial, I'm definitely going to try it out -- where do you buy the crepe paper in sheets?
ReplyDeleteSimple and elegant at the same time. Great for party or my Cinco de Mayo.

Shredding scissors would make this project even easier!
ReplyDeleteLove.
We've got a first birthday coming up...these would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your post about grocery shopping in France has me seriously itching to move abroad. It sounds like a cooking lover's DREAM.

this is great, guess I will do this for my little boys party in March... looks really cool and fluffy and fun and so easy...

Do you think this would work using crepe paper streamers if I can't find crepe paper in sheets? Seems like that would just eliminate the step where you cut the sheets into strips. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so beautiful, for relatively little work. Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever idea! And now another reason to get shredding scissors! Thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love this. Also wondering if it would work with the same way with a roll of streamers?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 8:34 PM: I've tried something similiar with regular crepe paper on the roll and it is harder to work with because you have to unroll it, then roll it back up, then cut it and it was much more difficult. Art and craft stores should carry the crepe paper in sheets. Like right here at Dick Blick.
ReplyDeleteadorable & so easy! love this idea!! :) thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAlso I have a pair of shredding scissors but I find they work best on thinner sheets of paper. This project requires you to really "work" the scissors.
ReplyDeleteThis would brighten any space any day. I love the Cinco de Mayo idea...it's on my list!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and I love the socks, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are totally amazing. I want to hang them all over my shop and my house. They would be great for a wedding too!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the simple beauty of these fringey streamers!
ReplyDeleteI love the citron colors you used. Super simople but super cute, my kind of project.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I've added a stop at Dick Blick this weekend to stock up on colorful crepe paper.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteBTW I'm a socks addict! And yours are lovely hahaha I have ones like that but mines instead of black&white stripes are orange and hot pink :)
Wow, these are fabulous. And I LOVE the socks! Where are they from?
ReplyDeleteGenius! I just bonked myself on the head and said, "why didn't i think of that?" Thanks for sharing! The streamer colors you chose are so dreamy.
ReplyDeleteOh my. You are my go to gal when it comes to decorations. I wish I had seen this before my cousin's graduation party last weekend.
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! But you're right, your socks are definitely the star. Where did you get them!?
ReplyDeletegreat idea! i love the font of the numbers in your tutorial. what is it? thanks.
ReplyDeleteI thought you'd made those! Love them! Happy birthday to your little guy. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't even understand step 1. Cut off 2-3 inches of paper. Okay, but how are all the layers connected? Is the paper sold in sheets that are attached on the short edges?
ReplyDeleteLOVE this. and the blog too, this is the one i look forward to read everyday!
ReplyDelete@Jeannine: It is one long continuous sheet/roll. You can get it at an art store.
ReplyDeleteThe socks are from H&M. I love stripes!
ReplyDeleteLovely and lovely. Thank you for sharing your discovery!
ReplyDeletewill copy thank you
ReplyDeleteso pretty! thanks for sharing!
