The first book is called Cold. I'm about half way through and so far I love it. It is a style of nature writing that combines science with story and personal experience so that otherwise boring data becomes really fascinating. Also, the author is really likeable which is good because there is nothing worse than reading a book by someone you don't like. I was an English Lit major in college so forcing my busy self to sit and read this book brought back memories (Where's my endless supply of Mtn. Dew?) As part of the book club they sent me a Sony Pocket Reader to try out. It is designed to be small enough to fit in your pocket and has a beautiful screen. I was also excited to hear that that with the Sony Reader you can read over a million ebooks for free through your library. Another trick that is useful for me is they have a translator so I can read a book in French and when I don't understand a word I click on it and the meaning pops up. (I was told to read books in French to help learn the language.)

my close friend and i started a book club with about seven other women earlier this year. i absolutely love it. it allowed me to rediscover my love for reading. becoming a mom is such a blessing but you sometimes forget things about yourself!
ReplyDelete@Nicky I know! I was shocked when I sat down to read Cold. I realized I hadn't done that in over 9 months since Roman was born.
ReplyDeleteI've been a part of several book clubs, but life has become too hectic for most everyone involved, so we decided to start The New Yorker club. We kick it off in January ~ choosing several articles of a particular issue and then discussing. Sounds achievable!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to the world of book clubs but have been keeping a blog of the books I've read so that I could recommend them (or not) to friends. Out book club has introduced me to books I wouldn't ordinarily choose to read so I've loved it too.

i recently joined my first book club - it is the international book club, and each month we read a book from a different country. when we meet to discuss it, a person from that country joins in (or a person who has visited) and if possible, we bring food from that country. we read the price of stones, and then between the earth and sky - both amazing.
