While it looks so pretty and is a lovely idea, I wish people would think of what happens to the balloons as they deflate or burst. Someone somewhere has to pick up the litter. Beautiful pictures though:)
Yes, very pretty. But very bad for the environment. Bad for any animals that eat them. On a water planet such as ours, it's not surprising that things that go into the air often end up in the ocean. And water animals see these floating things and mistake them for food. As a former animal rescuer, I can say that I have seen animals in danger from the after-effects of parties such as these. Sad. There is a greener way to have the beauty and the thought of it, without the consequences.
Thank you all for the feedback, both positive and negative. This was a very special day for me at the end of what had been a very difficult 29th year. My intentions were to use the balloons as a way to share love with friends and strangers through hand-written wishes. Good wishes...
In hindsight, I am now more aware of the environmental concerns carried up in the air with the balloons...and, as such, have sought out several internet sites on how to do this more safely. Should you decide to do this on your own, I encourage you to check these out first.

ReplyDeleteHi Deena, They want people to pick them up, it's part of a project: go read the site.
ReplyDeleteYes, very pretty.

people have got to stop this balloon send off nonsense. As beautiful as they look- it's a BAD idea every time (regardless of the pick up plan)
ReplyDeleteChill people. Its a one time thing. Im sure she doesn't do this every birthday.
ReplyDeleteBut how many people doing it once makes too much of an impact? Everything begins with one person, good or not-so-good.
