Curriculum for Hobbies

I've heard of people using Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking as a sort of textbook. Well I've just started using Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook in the same way. I'm hoping by the time I'm done with the book my home and things will be better organized and I'll be more educated on this subject. (It would also be cool to do it with this book or this book or this book .)

  1. I did the same thing. I started off just printing her cleaning checklists, then I moved on to the book.

  4. I have the Martha Cooking School book; it really is a great reference tool for cooking techniques, with lovely photos (of course!) and simple but classic, delicious recipes. Highly recommended!

  5. Same here- I got this for my birthday last year and started reading it, but then fell off the wagon and have been using it mostly as a reference. I look forward to making some time this summer to really get through it.

  9. I love this idea as well. I have all of those Martha books, and I have been thinking about using them in that way. Her Baking Handbook is great for the same purpose as well. Now I need a gardening text!

  10. Add me to the list of people who think this is a great idea. I have this book, actually. Have I cracked the spine? Negative.

Another great book about home keeping is called Home Comforts. I gave a copy to all my bridesmaids at my wedding (10 years ago) and I have to say, maybe we are all nerds, but it was a huge hit.

  13. Cooking Light's Way To Cook would also be awesome for this. It reads more like a (very colorful, beautifully photographed) textbook as opposed to just a cookbook anyway.

  14. I have this book too and have spent very little time with it. However, a complete apartment overhaul cleaning is about to start so this is a great idea to base my projects on! Thanks!

We should start a group or something and do it all together.
