The best thing about moving to France so far is our schedule. When we first talked about moving to Paris I read Nichole's post here about their schedule in Paris and it pretty much sounded like heaven to me. We were working crazy hours at the time and I thought "That is what I want."
We work American hours so thats about 6pm-1am France time (sometimes more, sometimes less). Which means our schedule goes like this: we wake up everyday, Paul or I will walk down to the bakery to get some bread. We all get ready for the day and then go on errands and explore the city together. We go to museums, parks, shopping, eat crepes, sit, etc. Then evening time rolls around we start working, we take a break to put the boys to sleep and then work late into the night. Our kids are young so this might not work as well if they were school aged but for now its been pretty perfect. We get to hang out together every day. We love our schedule so much that we are already trying to figure out a way to extend our stay here.
Perfect!
ReplyDeletesounds like a dream!
ReplyDeleteIncredible!! What a fabulous opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could do that!! What time do you wake up?
ReplyDelete@Amy,
ReplyDeleteOur boys wake up at 7am so usually one of us gets up with them to get them breakfast, but we'll go back to sleep for another hour--its a slow morning. We are usually all up by 9am.
dreamy!
ReplyDeleteI'm dreaming of just doing that, right now!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing opportunity! Bravo for taking such a leap, and it working out wonderfully. I hope to have a working schedule similar to this when its time for me to start a family...and live in Paris no less! Many blessings to you and your lovely family!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds crazy, but then again...if you're waking up around 9 you get 8 hours of sleep. Amazing! Actually, it doesn't sound crazy at all...it sounds like a perfect way for artists with little ones to work :) Most of your work is, of course, done while they're asleep. Perfect! I think this is how I'll work when my little one gets here :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I knew it was only a matter of time before I read the words "we want to stay here"........
ReplyDeleteO man... this post makes me miss Paris so much :( I lived there for 6 months and it most definitely captured apart of my SOUL!!! haha....
ReplyDeleteSeriously. That is what heaven must be made of.
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty damn fantastic to me.
ReplyDeleteTHAT is the way to live! Your Parisian life sounds dreamy!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are very lucky in that we both work from home (no kiddos), so get the flexibility to walk to lunch together and to enjoy LA at off-peak (re: low traffic) hours. IF you can swing it, it's definitely the way to go (so much less stress).
i'm so excited, i talked to my hubby about finally wanting to get to know paris and he's now even more enthused than me! we started out with the jardin botanique and a drive through paris last saturday. it was wonderful http://busyasabeeinparis.blogspot.com/2011/04/botanical-gardens-in-paris-le-jardin.html. he's a frenchy so he made me a list of things we're going to do this summer to discover paris! i'll post it soon on my blog! thanks! you've been an inspiration! enjoy! you're living the dream!!!!

ReplyDeletesounds like heaven to me too. I'm more of a night person anyways. Take advantage of all that you can do before your kids are in school....for sure!

ReplyDeleteJordan your schedule really is perfect for making the most out of living in Paris. It would be a shame to live there for a year and be stuck behind a computer all day.
ReplyDeleteWay to make a dream year even better - how lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much - thanks for sharing the details of your life abroad.
ReplyDeletethis post made me want to move to paris! love the idea of exploring the city and buying bread from a local bakery every morning. great pics too!
ReplyDeleteI love your schedule! You are really taking advantage of this time in Paris to explore the city as a family. I think it is so amazing what you guys have done! Love it!
ReplyDeleteSo loved reading this post. It sounds like your days are heavenly indeed... and you may have inspired us to do something similar.Thankyou for reminding me how exciting the world is!! yay
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like heaven to me. I love hearing about your life in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThis is a little off topic, but I was wondering where the best crepes (banana nutella ones to be exact) can be found in Paris? I seem to remember reading something about this a while back back can't remember where. I am dying to know for future reference.
I'm so happy this is working for you guys! Sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have a similar work schedule, but we add in language study which is kind of a stress, but by the end of the year we will be rewarded with fluency in yet another language, so hopefully it will all be worth it! We love living in Europe and would be heartbroken to go back to the States, so I definitely understand why you would want to extend!
ReplyDeleteJordan,
ReplyDeleteI just want to say how inspired I am that you had a dream and totally made it come true. Sometimes these fantasies seem so out of reach, but you're proving that if you want something badly enough, you can make it happen!
I hope some day I have the courage to do something so amazing:)

ReplyDeletewhy on earth would you ever come back to the states?
Sounds totally incredible! How life should be :) Glad to hear you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteWhat you just described is exactly how I'm imagining my schedule will be when we move abroad (from Australia to London).
ReplyDeleteI work from home now and my husband will be working afternoons/evenings so am envisioning the morning to explore and the evening to work. Cannot wait.
Paris is great (it's my favorite city in France). Have you traveled to other places in France?
ReplyDeletesounds like the nicest schedule in the world
ReplyDeleteAww these photos remind me of my trip to Paris last summer. We even ate at the cafe in the first photo. :) I'm very interested to read about how you are adjusting to Parisian life now that I've stumbled onto your site. :)
