Cleaning Tips for Bathroom | Sponsored By Method

This is the last post in the campaign I'm doing with Martha and Method with tips on how to clean up your home. Today is the bathroom! The bathroom is my least favorite to clean, but I have a few tricks to make my bathroom feel organized and happy.

Tip 1: Fluffy White Towels
Any bathroom feels cleaner if there are fluffy white towels, I'm partial to a white towel over colored for lots of reasons but mostly because they just feel better in a small space. Also a cupboard full of white fluffy towels is one of the simplest pleasures in life. I'm partial to the Macy's Hotel line. We bought ours 6 years ago and they are still going strong.

Tip 2: Stock up on Supplies
It is easy to do but I feel so rich when I have pretty baskets full of organized toilet paper and containers in my cupboards that hold qtips, cotton balls, makeup. I keep my eye out when I'm at the thrift store or flea market for cute containers to hold toiletries.

Tip 3: Clean=Comfortable
I think people feel comfortable in a clean and organized bathroom over one with lots of decoration. So I like to keep my decorations simple in the bathroom but I always try to keep a few pieces of art and either a small vase of flowers or a little plant. (Orchids thrive in steamy and tropical spaces!)

Tip 4: Clean during Bath Time
My sister taught me this trick. (This probably only applies if you have kids.) While your little guys are taking a bath wipe down the sink, mirrors, and floors. Then after they are out of the bath give the tub a scrub down and your whole bathroom is tidy in one fell swoop. Multitasking!

I just cleaned my bathroom last night using this Method multi purpose cleaner, it got my bathroom clean and it still currently smells like French Lavender, I love it! Do you have any tips on how to keep your bathroom clean and organized?

  1. Cleaning during bathtime doesn't only apply to kiddos...I wipe down the shower walls and door with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser when I shower. That way I can clean it thoroughly (without chemicals) and I don't have to spray the shower from outside. The MAgic Eraser (original one) gets all the soap scum and hard water spots off. Love it!

  2. I love the idea of cleaning when the baby is in the tub! I would love to see how you organize your make-up and other bathroom sundries. I've been looking for more creative ways to store all these tiny containers in a teensy bathroom. Thank you!

I just visited Egpty with my husband and stayed 4 days (sans tour guide). It was the best trip. Walk the streets in Giza. People were kind, we felt safe and everyone talked to us. This was the best thing we did. We even ended up having a roof top dinner with local friends we made overlooking the pryamids. Let me know if you would like more information about where we stayed -it was a self catering apartment. Enjoy!

A scarf is not needed unless you just want to wear one.

I totally agree with you on cleaning while your child is in the tub. Mine will spend a good half hour in there just playing. Its a great opprotunity to tidy everything up!

  6. Like Katie, I clean my own shower while I'm in it. Every Monday (today!), I grab a scrub brush from under the sink and use a squirt of inexpensive body wash to clean the tiles of my stall shower while I shower. It's easy to rinse while you're in there and you don't have to worry about getting yourself wet or making a mess. Body wash might seem weird, but it's non-toxic and as I learned a long time ago, soap is soap!

  8. I love the idea of cleaning during bath time! I will definitely be doing this from here on out. Thank you for the tip!

I too like to organize my toiletries. We have baskets for our white towels, toilet paper, makeup brushes, qtips/cotton squares, and I even bought two trays so that we could each have our every day essentials on the counter organized and pretty too!

  9. Have each bathroom have it's own set of cleaning supplies stored under the sink. Not only is it more convenient, but you will be more inclined to clean the bathroom when you don't have to go get the cleaning supplies.

  10. Yes! I know the Method line is great (used to use it myself) but now I am hooked, and I mean HOOKED, on a line of products out of Canada called Norwex. All you need is their Antibaterial Microfiber cloth and water and your bathroom (insert kitchen, etc.) is clean and disinfected in a flash. And I mean a flash. I've never had anything shine as brightly, clean so quickly and keep the germs away to well. And my kids can clean without my fear of them touching yucky chemicals (even earth friendly ones) and I'm being a good friend to the environment. Truly the best find in a zillion years. Couldn't recommend their products for your bath, kitchen, dusting, etc. more.

  11. Great post, I have a question about art in the bathroom. I have a print I purchased, and a photograph that I'd like to hang in our bathrooms, but I'm worried about them being ruined by humidity, etc.
Is matting enough to keep your artwork safe?
    Thanks!

  12. I multi task too when my daughter takes a bath! I will either clean the sink, toilet and floor OR I paint my toe nails and flat iron my hair! Gotta take care of momma too! :) And I use those magic erasers when I am showering as well to clean the tub!

  13. My mother always said that the most efficient way to clean the bathroom is after removing one's clothes, but before getting in the shower. Motivation to get it done (although probably best to use bio cleaning products if cleaning in the buff). Also, I am so with you on the white towels and sad that my husband does not agree (he thinks they get dirty, which is the point, non?).

And here I thought cleaning during the kids' bathtime was MY good idea. :) It works well for me... although bathrooms are still my least favorite thing to clean.

  17. How do you keep your white washcloths white? When we have overnight company, they use the washcloths to take off their make-up. THe washcloths are now dingy.

  18. I love the idea of white towels, and the ones you recommended have me converted after reading the reviews. However, I have four boys between the ages of 11 and 1, so I was hoping you could tell me--does the white wash well/stain easily? Am I going to have to be changing them every day? (I'm not sure I could afford that many Hotel towels right now....)

i'm tired of these method marketing campaign posts...i've seen them not just on your blog and the more i see them, the less genuine the post seems. please don't sell out.

  20. @Anon I'm sorry if you are tired of the posts. I've done sponsored posts for several years and I loved the pitch that my ad network gave me about doing spring cleaning posts around my home. Method is a company I love and I've blogged about in the past without compensation so for me personally, this feels very consistent to what I've always done.

    highfive,

  21. Since you have method on the horn can you ask them do make some products without fragrance or very little? I would use them more.....

I took one of "Martha's" idea and ran with it......I bought a "window squeegee" to squeeze off the water in my shower stall, then spray the stall with Method daily shower freshener. My husband and I are "runners" and we also have a teenage daughter so we may actually take up to 6 showers daily. Using the "squeegee" and Method Daily Shower absolutely has helped to keep fungus and mildew down and has cut the cleaning process in half! And I also use the Method "Tub-n-Tlle" wipes to daily clean the toilets and bathroom countertops and it always leaves a fresh smell throughout the bathrooms! I love clean bathrooms!

white vinegar and whatever oil you like (lavender, tea tree etc) and a little water in a spray bottle.... spray after all showers have been done for the day - spray all over the tiles... do this every day and within a week you will have beautiful clean shower. I only scrub with a brush ever few weeks!! Fantastic with a family of 6 and white tiles :)
