Felt Ball Garland

I wanted one of these felt ball garlands like the one at Anthropologie. I'd seen felt ball garlands before but not one in a rainbow palate so I decided to make one. It wasn't too difficult but here are the details.

I ordered 2cm sized felt balls. Threading them is pretty easy, just make sure the needle is nice and fat to make enough room for the thread. To make 4 feet of garland you need about 30 balls. (I hung some on my new little Rosemary bush.)

  1. do you tie knots in between to keep them in place or do they just stay put?

  4. I've seen really cute, super cheap versions done with craft store pom poms, I know hobby lobby has cute (not crafty!) colors. I've been meaning to do one for ages, maybe for christmas!

  5. @molly They stay put. I used a textured string that helped with that. I didn't try it with a smooth string so not sure how that would work.

  6. So cool! I love this idea! I was thinking of taking round wooden beads in primary colors and making a similar garland.

  16. I'm so happy to see you've done this! I kept daydreaming about doing something similar (I, too, am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to Anthropologie's home decor), and it's wonderful to see someone pull this off! I'll have to get to work on one for the holidays.

  22. Very cute! I tried to do this with the felt balls this year, but I couldn't find any so cheap! I'm going to order a bunch now.

(I ended up using pom poms instead, which seem a little more cha-cha than I hoped, but still cute)

  28. I saw this on anthropologie, too, but knew I wouldn't spend that much money for it. I bought fashion crochet thread at JoAnn's Fabrics, and the felt balls stayed in place.

You can also buy the felt balls from a couple vendors at etsy.

Such a fun, and cute project!

What kind of thread did you use? Did you get from ornamentea?? Can you find textured thread at a local craft store, like Michael's or Hobby Lobby?

A friend had a similar pom pom garland that she hung above her fireplace and used it to hang her christmas cards; I'm making this one to take that idea for next year!
