I ordered 2cm sized felt balls. Threading them is pretty easy, just make sure the needle is nice and fat to make enough room for the thread. To make 4 feet of garland you need about 30 balls. (I hung some on my new little Rosemary bush.)

do you tie knots in between to keep them in place or do they just stay put?
ReplyDeleteI love it! I want to make some..
ReplyDeletei love this! i saw the one in anthropologie and it was pretty expensive. great alternative!
ReplyDeleteI've seen really cute, super cheap versions done with craft store pom poms, I know hobby lobby has cute (not crafty!) colors. I've been meaning to do one for ages, maybe for christmas!
ReplyDelete@molly They stay put. I used a textured string that helped with that. I didn't try it with a smooth string so not sure how that would work.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I love this idea! I was thinking of taking round wooden beads in primary colors and making a similar garland.
ReplyDeleteSo, so cute. I think they'd look great wrapped around my wooden christmas tree. http://flotsamfriends.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-creative-space-flotsam-christmas.html

what a cute little garland! there's no space for a real christmas in my apartment, but i love this idea of decorating a rosemary plant!
ReplyDeleteso so so so wonderful. we saw you post a link last week and were very inspired but already had most of decorations up. Definitely keeping it our pocket for next year. And the rosemary bush is perfect as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
These are adorable...I can't wait to try this out! www.thecallbackcollection.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing this year! Yours looks great! I'd say mine is a more humble version.
ReplyDeleteaha, you're one step ahead of me. on my list of things to do (that endless one) is "google making felt balls." if only i lived in america and could run to my local craft store like you!
ReplyDeletethese are so sweet, thank you for sharing ornamentea, i've been looking for felt balls!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Totally inspired.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely love these- going to make these for my tree this year- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see you've done this! I kept daydreaming about doing something similar (I, too, am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to Anthropologie's home decor), and it's wonderful to see someone pull this off! I'll have to get to work on one for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteYay! I am so doing this! Thanks for the great idea, it's perfect for what I want this Christmas - handmade & colourful.
ReplyDeleteJordan, which color set did you get? The poppy? This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh - I'd love to do this in white! So pretty.

ohh, simply and perfect!
ReplyDelete;)
these would be cute year round!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I tried to do this with the felt balls this year, but I couldn't find any so cheap! I'm going to order a bunch now.
ReplyDelete(I ended up using pom poms instead, which seem a little more cha-cha than I hoped, but still cute)
wow I should have ordered some, I am just finishing making a bunch of my own felt balls...they take forever!
ReplyDeletethis is so cute... i just started "felting" and this looks like an easy and lovely holiday project.
ReplyDeleteSimple and beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteI love it!
you got your felt balls from ornamentea? i love that store!! i live in raleigh and go there all the time and i just bought wool roving in christmas reds and greens to make my own felt balls this year. :)
ReplyDeleteps - your garland turned out great!
these kinda make me want a bowl of trixx
ReplyDeleteso cute
I saw this on anthropologie, too, but knew I wouldn't spend that much money for it. I bought fashion crochet thread at JoAnn's Fabrics, and the felt balls stayed in place.
ReplyDeleteYou can also buy the felt balls from a couple vendors at etsy.
Such a fun, and cute project!
What a great idea! Thanks - you just gave me the keys to an easy and sweet teacher holiday gift!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! I was swooning over strands of felt garland at West Elm and they are now sold out! I cannot wait to make my own, these are too cute to pass up as holiday decor!

Loving this! Recommended this to my co-worker who just got a cute rosemary tree. Actually, we discovered that we both read your blog :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the fun colors! And most of all love that you can change this up to any occasion. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove this!!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea, hope to make some..It will be interesting if the small ball will be covered whit some family pictures...
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! Love your rainbow color palette!
ReplyDeleteI love stealing ideas from Anthropologie! I actually talked about that garland and making pom poms on my blog a little while ago. I kind of have a pom pom fetish! Thanks for the DIY!
ReplyDeleteJust looking at pictures of it makes me so happy! Another project to tackle when I'm on vacation :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of thread did you use? Did you get from ornamentea?? Can you find textured thread at a local craft store, like Michael's or Hobby Lobby?
ReplyDeleteA friend had a similar pom pom garland that she hung above her fireplace and used it to hang her christmas cards; I'm making this one to take that idea for next year!
